Trenton, New Jersey native Nicole K. Nolan has quickly made her presence known in the plus-size fashion world with her fashion forward, urban edgy yet sophisticated designs. While she is no stranger to the plus community, it was her fall 2013 "New Age" Collection, that really put her on the fashion jet and made hers one of the most-recognizable plus size labels in the industry from then on. Since then, there has been no looking back and Nicole K. continues to go from strength to strength - and has won the hearts of her fellow peers and curvy consumers. Born in Trenton, N.J. in 1973 to a photographer mother and a father who trained as an amateur boxer, Nicole would go on to develop a love for fashion like both of her grandmother's and an uncle who was a hairstylist. Nicole attended the Mercer County Community College where she was studying for a AA in Computer Graphics before venturing into design. She went on to complete her degree in Retail Marketing/Merchandising at Bucks County Community College. "I always knew that in some aspect I would be a professional fashion designer considering I'd worked years as an event designer/planner," she told us. "It wasn't until 2003, when I gained close to sixty pounds after quitting cigarettes, that I knew that I was needed in the plus size fashion industry." In August 2008, Nicole K. opened her online boutique, Elocin Plus, featuring plus size clothing from most corners of the world. She would avidly and passionately seek out manufacturers that would produce clothing for 65% of the USA women. "It was tough! Really difficult trying to find clothing that was fashion forward or trendy. So, I found myself stocking my boutique racks with clothing that I needed and not because I desired them," she says. "Right then I knew that I would launch my own label." Nicole K would accomplish another goal in 2010 by opening her first brick and mortar store in the Historic Mill Hill section of Trenton, N.J. She would then go on to open a second brick and mortar boutique in Downtown Trenton, N.J. Although she loves her home town-proudly stating "Trenton Made Me," she knew that with the debilitating conditions of the community and poor political leadership, Trenton was no longer home. In the Spring of 2013, Nicole K. packed up Elocin Plus and moved to Atlanta, GA. She is currently focusing on her womenswear line although she isn't ruling out a kids collection, "I would love to design for the little girl who may have a few extra pounds, " she said "They are so beautiful no matter what anyone says or thinks!" Nicole K. Is also scouting boutique locations that best fit her uniqueness and one that will appeal to her curvy consumers. Her favorite saying "WATCH ME WORK!"
